Glossary

  • Mission: A Mission is a reserved time slot using our Telescopes. Photos will be automatically taken and uploaded to your Photo Hub regardless of attendance.

  • Quest: Quests are fun learning activities designed to help you, use the telescopes, explore space, gain Gravity Points, and earn Badges.

  • Star Party: Star Parties are live interactive meetings & shows which include special space events, astronomy programs, etc where members can participate and interact.

  • Gravity Points: Gravity Points are what you accrue as you participate in, and complete, quests. The more Gravity Points you earn, the more you level up.

  •  Level: Levels are displayed in the form of historical astronomers, who paved the way for the explorers to come.

  • Badges: Given once a quest is completed.

  • Slooh 1000: We have curated a list of the most fascinating objects in space that you can see through the Slooh telescopes. Each Slooh 1000 object has a Guide page explaining more about when and how to capture them on Slooh. These guides are organized by object type and the constellation where it resides.

  • FITs: Flexible Image Transport System

  •  Guides: We have curated a list of the most fascinating objects in space that you can see through the Slooh telescopes, the Slooh 1000. Each Slooh 1000 object has a Guide page explaining more about when and how to capture them on Slooh. The object guides are organized by object type as well as by the constellation where the object resides. You can browse through the Guides by clicking on the search icon in the top navigation bar, or go to the Guides Hub to find them there, along with other guides designed to help you understand basic astronomical concepts and everything else you will need to know to explore space on Slooh.

  • Lifelong Learners: At Slooh we value education, but as much as we are all always learning and growing, some of us don't fit the term "Student" anymore. Therefore, we decided our individual members outside of educational institutions are "Life-long Learners"

  • Houses: Houses are a brand new way for our members to interact! Whatever your viewpoint related to space and astronomy, you'll find Houses with other members sharing the same interest - and if you can't find one, then you can gather like minds and apply to start one.

  • Workspaces: Formerly "Clubs", Workspaces are hubs for members of the community with common interests to gather and share questions, ideas, and data. These groups require permission to find and join.

  •  Reservation: Slooh's "Reservation Engine" chooses the optimum observatory, telescope, and date/time for the mission.
